During this pandemic, direct sellers are forced to move their business on-line, ready or not. Many of which have not spent much, if any time at all building up their social media profiles. In this post, I will concentrate only on the first 4 basic FaceBook mistakes that form the foundations of using this platform for selling and recruiting in your direct sales business. 1.The first biggest mistake is using their personal profiles for business instead of as a part of a funnel. Although many people have been doing so, selling product on your personal profile can get you into Facebook jail. There are many ways that you can use your personal page to help your business and utilize your large network to help you gain engagement, but selling and recruiting directly from your personal page should not be one of them unless you are willing to risk upsetting Facebook and get blocked from your account. Facebook requires that all business is conducted through a business page or a private group. The purpose of your personal profile is for personal interactions. The business page is meant to be a public profile to introduce your business and services. They rank higher in Google searches, allowing better customer reach. They also offer you the option to promote posts create ads. Posts can be shared from a business page to either a personal or group page as an added feature. Groups, on the other hand are for a more interest-based personal experience and allow for notifications for activity which allows for a higher level of engagement. 2. Boring cover images is another issue for many direct sellers' social media. The goal is to attract people to engage with you, and people are more likely to engage with an interesting page/group. There are almost endless options for creative, customizable cover images in Canva. Video covers are another eye catching option you could try. You will also want to consider switching out the cover images occasionally. I change my cover images every new month / season / event to keep it fresh. You want to keep in mind that you should be your company's product, not the actual products you are selling. There may be hundreds or thousands of others selling the same products as you but there is only one you. You need to give them a reason to buy that product from you instead of someone else. So I suggest not just using the company provided product images as your cover image, but instead, something more interesting that focuses more on you than just the product. A great example would be an image of you using the products. 3. The next mistake you will want to remedy asap is to ensure that you have made it super easy for people to order from you. If they cannot find your shopping link within a couple of clicks, you have likely lost a customer purchase and you may never even know it. I suggest having someone who has never visited your business page or group try to find your shopping link on their own. There should be either a button, link or announcement making it easy for people to purchase from you. You can even create a pretend "click here" on your cover image. When they click on your cover image, it expands the image and offers a place to write a description about how you help people with your products and a place to post your shopping link. See the example below that I created in Canva. 4. Another mistake that you may not even be aware of is where the links you post are going to. Many direct sellers will post links to products that actually take the shopper to the company page instead of their own shopping site. For example, in my direct sales company, I can send people to my shopping home page, however, if I use a link to an individual product, it takes the shopper to the company site and I just lost the sale / credit. So be very sure of where your links are sending your shoppers to. You could be losing sales left and right without even knowing it.
